Rainfall Likely As Unsettled Weather Pattern Moves Into Region
EL DORADO — An unsettled weather pattern is expected to bring periodic rounds of rain and thunderstorms to South Arkansas through the end of the week and into the upcoming weekend, according to the National Weather Service Little Rock.
Meteorologists say a broad southwesterly flow pattern across the central United States will keep conditions favorable for intermittent showers and thunderstorms across Arkansas. While rain is not expected to fall continuously, several rounds of rainfall are possible over the next several days.
Forecasters indicate the overall weather setup includes a trough system positioned to the west of Arkansas, which will help funnel moisture into the region. This pattern favors repeated chances of rain across portions of the Southern and Central Plains, including much of Arkansas.
For South Arkansas communities such as El Dorado, Magnolia, Camden and surrounding areas, periods of showers and thunderstorms could develop at times through the week. Some storms may produce locally heavier rainfall, though widespread flooding is not currently expected.
Weather officials also noted that an upper-level ridge system over the southeastern United States may limit the amount of rainfall that reaches portions of Arkansas. If that ridge strengthens, it could reduce overall rainfall totals heading into the weekend.
Despite that possibility, forecasters emphasize that rain chances will remain in the forecast through at least Sunday, with changing weather conditions becoming more likely late in the weekend.
Residents across South Arkansas are encouraged to remain weather-aware throughout the week, especially during periods of thunderstorms. Drivers should use caution during heavy rain, as brief downpours could lead to reduced visibility and water collecting on roadways.
More detailed forecasts and potential updates will continue to be issued as the unsettled weather pattern evolves.

CAMDEN, Ark. — Several graduates from South Arkansas were among 77 cadets who completed training with Class 2026-A at the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy (ALETA) in Camden, officials with the Arkansas Division of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (ADLEST) announced.
South Arkansas graduates included Calvin Johnson of the South Arkansas College Police Department, Donovan Harris of the Ouachita County Sheriff’s Office, Allen Butler, Lawson Gibbs, Matthew Tabory and Jesus Valdez of the Camden Police Department, Cristopher Griffith and Blaine Sanders of the Magnolia Police Department, Michael Cox of the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office, Cameron Franks of the Crossett Police Department, and Katelynn White of the Ashley County Sheriff’s Office.
The 77 graduating cadets represented 46 departments across Arkansas and completed an intensive training program designed to prepare them for the demands of law enforcement service.
“Each graduate standing here today has earned their place through hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to doing what is right,” ADLEST Director Chris Chapmond said. “They are entering a profession that requires both strength and compassion, and we are proud to welcome them into the law enforcement community.”
During their time at ALETA, cadets received comprehensive instruction in criminal law, firearms, defensive tactics, emergency response and community engagement. Officials said the program is designed to equip graduates with both the technical skills and professional mindset required for public service.
“This class has demonstrated resilience and a strong sense of purpose from day one,” Camden ALETA Supervisor Scott Williams said. “They have developed not only the skills required for the job, but also the mindset needed to serve their communities with honor.”
Several cadets received special recognition for outstanding performance during training. Caroline Patterson of the El Dorado Police Department, representing South Arkansas, earned top honors in academics. Other award winners included Payton Hayes of the Hot Springs Police Department in physical fitness, Danny Crocker of the Texarkana Police Department in firearms, and Dylan Lamb of the Eureka Springs Police Department in the Emergency Vehicle Obstacle Course.

Burn Ban Remains In Effect Amid Slight Chances Of Rainfall
EL DORADO — A burn ban remains in effect in Union County as dry conditions persist, even as rain chances are expected to gradually increase across Arkansas in the coming days.
According to the office of Union County Judge Mike Loftin, the countywide burn ban will remain in place due to continued dry weather and elevated fire danger conditions. Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning until conditions improve and the ban is officially lifted.
Forecasters with the National Weather Service Little Rock say rain chances will increase across the state over the next several days, but South Arkansas may not see significant relief immediately.
“Rain chances will increase across the state over the next several days,” the National Weather Service said. “While the majority of the state is expected to observe at least some precipitation, points further east and south will likely have a couple more days before appreciable rainfall arrives. Even then, low expected amounts of rainfall will only improve dry conditions slightly.”
That outlook means South Arkansas counties, including Union County, could remain at risk for wildfire conditions despite the possibility of scattered rain later this week.
Officials stress that even small amounts of rainfall may not be enough to fully relieve drought-like conditions or eliminate fire risks. Dry vegetation and gusty winds can still create dangerous conditions where fires can spread quickly.
Residents are reminded that burn bans prohibit outdoor burning of debris, brush and other materials. Violations of the burn ban can result in fines and other penalties.
County officials encourage residents to monitor local announcements for updates on the burn ban status as weather conditions change.
