Governor orders flags to full staff for Trump inauguration

Published

on

LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders has issued an executive order to raise the United States and Arkansas state flags to full staff at the state Capitol and all state buildings on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025, in honor of President Donald J. Trump’s inauguration.

President Trump will be sworn in as the nation’s 47th president during a ceremony that marks the peaceful transfer of power, a hallmark of American democracy. The inauguration will celebrate President Trump, his administration, and the millions of Americans who supported his vision and elected him to office.

Following the inauguration, the flags will return to half-staff at sunrise on Tuesday, Jan. 21, to continue honoring the memory of President Jimmy Carter, who passed away in December 2024. The lowering of the flags aligns with President Joe Biden’s proclamation issued on Dec. 29, 2024, which designated a period of mourning through Jan. 28, 2025.

“The inauguration of a new president is a historic moment that unites Americans in celebration of our democracy,” Sanders stated in the order. “At the same time, we continue to honor the legacy of President Jimmy Carter, whose life of service has left an indelible mark on our nation.”

Flags at the U.S. Capitol will also follow a similar protocol, with Speaker of the House Mike Johnson announcing they will be raised for the inauguration and then lowered again to continue mourning President Carter.
